The Malawi electoral commission (MEC) says it will not suspend the second phase of the voters registration underway in some ten districts across the country as demanded by UDF, DPP, AFORD and UTM parties.

MEC chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja said this in a response to the political parties namely who are calling for the postmortem of the same and resignation of the MEC chairperson, its Chief Elections Officer and NRB Principal Secretary citing complications in the first phase among other issues.

In a statement, Justice Mtalimanja says the commission is upholding the rule of law in addressing all the issues and demands raised by the concerned political parties of ensuring credible 2025 general elections.

Mtalimanja says the commission remains open to further dialogue to resolve any outstanding issues and avail itself to an interface with the political parties as soon as conveniently available.
