A niece to former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, Manice Hale, popularly known as Manice Abiti William Dawood has lambasted State Vice President Dr. Michael Usi for describing the November 17 elective conference for United Transformation Movement (UTM) as illegal.
It all started with a statement posted by Usi on his official Facebook page where he openly described the UTM convention as a rape of the party’s constitution.
“By contravening established protocols and procedures, those organizing the elective convention are essentially raping the UTM constitution, undermining the party’s internal democracy and the purported elective convention is a blatant disregard for UTM’s very foundation,” wrote Usi.
But the statement did not go down well with Mutharika’s niece who accused Usi of being an agent of Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
“You are the one who is rapping the UTM constitution because you are trying to please your MCP bosses. And if you didn’t know, SKC died regretting his decision of having you as his number 2. You should be the last person to talk about democracy because you were just handpicked, you were not voted,” commented Abiti William Dawood.
The comment is currently trending on social media.
Usi has since pulled out of the UTM elective conference.
Former State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima appointed Usi as his runningmate ahead of the 2019 polls.
Usi took over leadership of the party following the death of Chilima in a plane crash on June 10, 2024 in Chikangawa Forest.
