In Mzimba District’s Manenekera area, villagers were seen risking their lives by collecting petrol from an overturned fuel tanker that was involved in an accident.

A video circulating on social media shows locals, equipped with buckets and containers, fearlessly gathering the spilled fuel, despite the danger.

The tanker reportedly crashed after a collision, making it easy for villagers to access the fuel and take it home. However, the incident has sparked concern among Malawians on social media, who warn that such actions can be fatal, as fuel can ignite at any moment.

The situation has drawn comparisons to a tragic accident in northern Nigeria on October 15, 2024, where a fuel tanker explosion killed nearly 100 people and left 50 others injured. Social media users are urging people to be cautious and avoid such high-risk behavior.
