Malawian rapper and fashion icon Gomezgani Kambwiri, popularly known as Toastt, has expressed frustration over fans tagging him in posts related to the MASO Awards’ “Best Fashionable Celebrity” category, despite his decision not to participate.
The Gold Chain hitmaker addressed the issue through a post on his official Facebook page, where he clarified his stance:
“People keep tagging me about the MASO Awards ‘Best Fashionable Celebrity’ category. They gave me a call to inform me that I was nominated, but I humbly declined to participate.
Everyone nominated deserves the spotlight, and I find it weird when someone tags me on another individual’s post when I am not even up for nominations. Reads the post
Toasts continued saying that people must stick to the nominees and respect those who willingly choose not to participate like the way he did.
He stated that his decision to decline the nomination was genuine and was made before the nominations list not after the list comes out to what he described as “unnecessary withdrawals,” like the way Ethel Kamwendo Banda and Mr. Jokes did.
Toast, known for his bold fashion statements and unique sense of style, could have been competing with Jetu, Taygrin, Temwah, Charisma and Xandria and Dorothy Kingston who are among the nominees in the category.
However, the artist has urged his fans to focus on the official contenders and celebrate their contributions to Malawi’s fashion and entertainment industry.
