A 21-year-old Grade 7 pupil from Chipembere Primary School in Zambia. has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment with hard labour for attempting to assault an 80-year-old woman.

The incident occurred on Independence Day as the elderly woman worked in her field. According to her testimony, she resisted the attacker, Nebert Nthele, and managed to fend him off until help arrived.

Washing Phiri, 22, testified that he responded to the victim’s cries for help and found Nthele partially undressed, attempting to force himself on the woman. Phiri apprehended the suspect after a brief chase and handed him over to the police.

Judge Mwanabo, presiding over the case, condemned Nthele’s actions and handed down the seven-year sentence to serve as a deterrent.
