45-year-old man, Simon Chunga, has been arrested in Copperbelt Province Zambia for allegedly attacking his wife, Eunice Chunga, 36, with an axe, leaving her with severe injuries.
The assault was reportedly fueled by the husband’s suspicions of infidelity, despite being married for only three months.
Copperbelt Province Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the incident, revealing that the victim sustained deep cuts on her head, chin, and left forefinger, along with a fractured left arm. She is currently hospitalized and in stable condition.
According to Mr. Mweemba, the couple had been sleeping in separate rooms due to ongoing mistrust. On the night of November 14, 2024, the victim slept in the kitchen with her friend and daughter, while the suspect occupied the bedroom.
During the night, the friend heard a commotion from the sitting room, where Simon was allegedly attacking Eunice while shouting, “Ndekwipaya” (“I will kill you”). The friend sought help from a male neighbor, who intervened and restrained the suspect.
An axe was found at the scene, and the victim’s relatives were called before Simon Chunga was handed over to the police. Investigations are ongoing as the victim recovers from her injuries.
