A 54-year-old Mark Manda and a 40 year-old Malita Ndovie have died last evening in Nkhata-Bay after a truck loaded with sugarcane from Limphasa scheme fell on them.

According to report, a truck registration number DZ 1745 which was being driven by Willard Phekamisa 56, was in the evening of November 18, 2024 coming from Limphasa cane scheme loaded with sugarcane.

According to Nkhata-Bay police spokesperson, Sergeant Kondwani James, on arrival at Limphasa Rice Scheme from the farm, the sugarcane loosened from the truck and eventually fell on the two pedestrians who were going to the same direction.

“The pedestrians sustained severe head injuries and have been pronounced dead at Nkhata-Bay District Hospital due to severe head injuries as per the autopsy conducted by the medical personnel,” said James.

Mark Manda aged 54, hailed from Chavukuka Village in Senior Chief Timbiri in Nkhata-Bay while the 40-year-old Malita Ndovie hailed from Pitala Village in Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga district.
