The Mazabuka High Court has sentenced traditional doctor Oswald Musonda to 20 years imprisonment with hard labor after finding him guilty of defiling a patient entrusted to his care for treatment.
The incident, reported by Local Zambian Media House (Byta FM), revealed that the victim’s parents had placed their trust in Musonda, leaving their child under his supervision for medical attention.
In mitigation, Musonda, through his lawyer, expressed remorse and regret, stating that he hoped to reform and become a better member of society.
However, the court emphasized that Musonda had betrayed the trust bestowed upon him by the victim’s family, abusing his position as a caregiver. The judge also noted the damage caused to the reputation of traditional healers who genuinely uphold their duty of care.
The sentence serves as a stern warning against such violations, ensuring justice for the victim while protecting public trust in caregiving professions.
