The opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) is scheduled to meet the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja over the protested use of the Smartimatic system in the forthcoming 2025 polls.

UDF President Atupele Muluzi has confirmed of the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi.

According to Muluzi, the meeting has been organized with an aim of the UDF members to fully understand how the system will be used in the polls.

“The UDF fully supports the fundamental right of Malawians to demonstrate peacefully and express their views.

“As a party, we recognize the importance of transparency and accountability in the electoral process. It is worth noting that the UDF does not currently have Commissioners at the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC). To ensure that we have a clear understanding of the electoral process and the role Smartmatic will play, we are scheduled to meet with MEC,” said Muluzi.

He added: “Following this meeting, the UDF will independently review the matter and issue a comprehensive position that reflects our commitment to safeguarding the integrity of elections in Malawi.”

Yesterday MEC engaged religious leaders on the same matter.
