Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Councillor for Blantyre Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has asked President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to come out of his cocoon and address Malawians on the ongoing fuel crisis.

The call follows an incident in Ndirande where angry vendors pelted stones at Malawi Congress Party (MCP) top officials led by Minister of Information and Digitalization Moses Kunkuyu who is also MCP Campaign Director.

While condemning the act, Chimbanga urged Chakwera to step forward.

“Let’s be honest, Mr. President: pretending everything is fine doesn’t make it fine. In fact, the people burning the ruling Party’s T-shirts in Ndirande – while I firmly condemn such actions – are clearly sending a distress signal.

“Malawians are not asking for miracles (though at this rate, we might need one); they’re simply asking for leadership. Step forward. Speak to the nation. Tell us what’s going on and, more importantly, what your government is doing to fix this mess,” wrote Chimbanga.

Chimbanga has also asked President Chakwera to reduce his local travel amid challenges such as food crisis and increase in prices of basic commodities on the market.

“About those endless travels – scaling them down might do wonders. Right now, it feels like we’re watching a selfish father eating steak in the dining room while his children sip on imaginary soup in the kitchen. It’s not a good look, Your Excellency.

“The people need reassurance, not silence. So, please address the Nation or step down if you have nothing to say or solutions to offer,” wrote Chimbanga.

Effort to talk to Kunkuyu on the matter proved futile.
