Two officers from Kabulonga Police Post, Serah Chipeta (23) and Susan Yuyi (31), are facing charges of corruption and abuse of authority after allegedly accepting bribes from two women.

The duo appeared before Lusaka Magistrate Idah Phiri on allegations that they solicited and received a total of K72,500 between March 30 and April 18, 2024, in exchange for influencing the outcome of a criminal case.

The alleged bribes were reportedly taken from Marvis Namwila and Brenda Nsama, who were promised favorable resolutions in a case purportedly reported to the police by Christopher Mutambo.

In addition to the cash exchanges, the two officers are accused of abusing their authority by arbitrarily demanding the payments, an act deemed prejudicial to government interests.

After pleading not guilty to all charges, the officers are set to stand trial in January 2025.
