Police in Lilongwe have arrested three suspects in connection with the theft of 106 bags of soybeans from CONSIP storage facilities in Njewa.
Lilongwe Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu has confirmed the arrest and identified suspects as Noel Banda (25), Tsauso Mandala (40), and Madalitso Kamanga (35).
Chigalu explained that the arrests were made yesterday in the Mpingu and Mgona areas. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects tied up security guards at the storage facility and loaded the stolen bags, valued at approximately MWK 5.3 million, onto a lorry.
The police intercepted the lorry at Kanengo, but the suspects, along with three accomplices, initially fled. However, the three were apprehended later in the day.
Efforts to track down the remaining suspects are still underway, Chigalu confirmed.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could assist in apprehending the remaining culprits.
