A 39-year-old woman, Esther Byson, will spend the next three years in jail in Thyolo for burning the hands of her eight-year old son.

The court heard through state prosecutor, Stella Mwimaniwa, that last week, the victim ate cooked pigeon peas (nandolo) of her aunt without her knowledge at Supero village, Traditional Authority Ngolongoliwa.

Following that, the aunt reported the issue to the victim’s mother who in turn burnt his hands using burn plastic paper as a punishment.

Appearing before court, the convict pleaded guilty to an act intended to cause grievance harm.

Meanwhile, First Grade Magistrate Kondani Chinangwa has sentenced her to 36 months for inhumane act and lack of responsibility as a mother.
