Three students from Magawa secondary school in Mchinji are expected to appear in court on the grounds that they led the riots that destroyed the school’s learning materials on the night of 25 November 2024.
The police spokesperson in Mchinji Limbani Mpinganjira said the three and their friends set fire to the house of the school’s principal because they were not happy with being reprimanded for leaving the school without permission.
“At this point, we still do not know the value of the property that has been damaged, but the students have set fire to the principal’s office and all the property that was in there has been burnt,” Mpinganjira said.
They said they are still investigating to find other students who took part in the protests.
