Lingadzi Police Station in Lilongwe is keeping in custody three men for allegedly stealing Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) cables in Lilongwe district.
Lingadzi Police Station Deputy Public Relations Officer Constable Maria Kumwenda said the police received a complaint from MTL about their premises being tampered by unknown criminals who went away with cables of worthy MK 1,400,000.
Acting on this, Lingadzi Police Station detectives launched a manhunt which led to the arrest of Bernard Sikaliveti , Frank Hajj and Joseph Phiri.
With intelligence driven efforts , they found the suspects at Golden peacock hotel , where they were loading the stolen cables in a taxi.
Meanwhile, the three have admitted to have stolen the cables at city centre in Lilongwe.
The three are expected to appear in court soon and answer the charges levelled against them.
Bernard Sikaliveti,30, hails from Mtambira village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Tsabango , Lilongwe , Frank Hajj ,30, hails from Chikwiro village in T/A Chitekwere , Lilongwe and Joseph Phiri, 40, hails from Malengachazi village in T/A Malengachazi in Nkhotakota.
