President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is next week scheduled to travel to United Arable Emirates where he will hold discussion with President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the fuel crisis locking the country.

Chakwera revealed this during his state of the nation address aired on the state controlled Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) yesterday evening.

In his speech Chakwera said forex scarcity in the country have resulted in fuel supply disruption.

Chakwera said government has started the process of transitioning Malawi from the open tender system of procuring fuel to a government to government arrangement.

The President added that he has already constituted a coordinating committee to facilitate and execute all aspects of this process.

“As a first step to doing this, I have accepted an invitation from the president of the United Arab Emirates to visit him in Abu Dhabi next week at his own government’s expense to discuss this and other matters for the long term fuel security of our country,” said Chakwera.

Chakwera, however commended Malawians the calmness during the fuel crisis period.
