The Industrial Relations Court (IRC) in Blantyre has ruled that the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) must pay former Flames coach Meck Mwase K440 million as compensation for unlawful termination of contract, redeployment, and constructive dismissal.

IRC deputy chairperson Edna Bodole stated that the amount represents the remaining 36 months of Mwase’s contract, aligning his pay scale with that of former expatriate Flames coaches Romanian Mario Marinica and Belgian Ronny Van Geneugden (RVG).

However, the Court excluded motor vehicle allowance, insurance cover, annual gold card membership, and life insurance from Mwase’s benefits.

Mwase’s lawyer, David Kanyenda, expressed satisfaction with the decision despite it falling short of their initial demand of K518 million. On the other hand, FAM’s lawyer, Luciano Mickeus, indicated that FAM will deliberate on whether to appeal the judgment.
