Learners at Kaponda Primary School in Neno district have staged protests, demanding that the school’s headteacher refund exam printing fees paid for the current term.
The demonstrations erupted after learners, who had already paid the required fees, were informed that their exams would instead be written on blank exercise book pages. This decision angered the students, leading to the protests.
Chifundo Banda, one of the learners at Kaponda Primary, expressed disappointment, stating that many students were forced to pay the printing fees, making it unfair for exams to be conducted in this manner.
The protests have also disrupted learning at a neighboring school, Kalioni Primary, where classes were reportedly interrupted as a result of the unrest.
Meanwhile, the headteacher of Kaponda Primary, Lukias Banda, has not commented on the matter, with efforts to reach them proving unsuccessful as their phone remains unreachable.
Education authorities in the district are yet to address the situation as parents and students await further developments.
