According to Sub Inspector Chibisa Mulimbika, Deputy Public Relations Officer at Limbe Police Station, “We have arrested Harry Mkwate, a 29-year-old man from Nanthoka village, Traditional Authority Machinjiri in Blantyre district, for allegedly impersonating a public officer.”

Mkwate was posing as a Sanitation Officer with a fake identification card from Blantyre City Council, targeting shops owned by foreign business nationals in Limbe Township.

His intentions were to fraudulently collect money from them.

However, his scheme was foiled when an Indian businessman at Moon Puffs doubted his identity and alerted the police through the “My Phone My Zone” initiative.

Blantyre City Council officials confirmed that Mkwate was not one of their employees and that the ID he used was fake.

Mkwate is currently in Limbe Police custody, awaiting court trial.

As Mulimbika emphasized, “This arrest serves as a warning to those who engage in such fraudulent activities.

We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that justice is
