Sarah Boone, 47, was sentenced to life in prison on December 2, 2024, for the 2020 murder of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr., whom she sealed in a suitcase overnight until he suffocated.

Boone was found guilty of second-degree murder in October, and the jury deliberated for only 90 minutes after a 10-day trial.

During the sentencing, Boone smiled as Circuit Judge Michael Kraynick handed down the sentence in an Orlando courtroom.

Boone had recorded a video of herself taunting Torres, 42, while he begged to be let out of the suitcase.

“That’s what you get,” Boone said in the video, referring to Torres’ cries for help, “That’s what I feel like when you cheat on me.”

Torres’ family members filled the courtroom, and his mother, Blanca Torres, spoke emotionally about her son’s death: “Sometimes when I look out the window, I’m waiting for him to come and say, ‘Mom, I love you.'”

Torres Jr.’s daughter, Anna Victoria Torres, shared her grief, saying, “For the first year, I would wake up screaming and wishing I was having a nightmare, only to wake up and remember all over again that my father is gone.”

In a final statement before her sentencing, Boone apologized, saying, “I didn’t mean for this to happen. Forgive me Jorge. Forgive me Torres family.”

Boone had spent the trial claiming that her boyfriend had been abusive, stating, “I forgive myself for falling in love with a monster,” and describing how Torres had allegedly mistreated her.

The murder occurred during a night of drinking and a game of hide-and-seek, with Boone trapping Torres in the suitcase, assuming he would be able to escape, despite his cries for help.
