The Midima Magistrate Court in Limbe has convicted and sentenced Dan Khumbo Amos, 30, and Aubrey Yousuf, 43, for robbing at gun point a business woman at Bvumbwe.

Through state prosecutor Sub Inspector Ezekiel Sitima, the court heard that, during the month of February, 2024, four men who were driving a red Mazda Demio, registration number BY6722 trailed the victim who was on her way home before they attacked her at the gate as she was waiting for her guard to open it.

The quartet, who were armed with machetes ordered the guard to go back inside and close the gate; and one of them pulled out a revolver before smashing the passenger’s side window glass and pointed it at the woman.

She then in fear, surrendered the cash she had amounting to K2,600,000.00 and the four drove off leaving the victim in tears.

The matter was immediately reported at Limbe police and investigations were launched leading to the arrest of Amos and Yousuf whom the victim identified positively but the suspects pleaded not guilty to the charge when they appeared before the court.

This forced the state to parade 5 witnesses who proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.

In their mitigation, the dual prayed for a lighter sentence citing that they are both first offenders.

However, the state prayed for a stiffer penalty to serve as a deterrent to would be offenders.

Passing sentence, Senior Resident Magistrate Lawrence Mchilima slapped the dual with 14 years imprisonment with hard labour for armed robbery which is against section 301 of the penal code.

Dan Khumbo Amos hails from Kandaya village, Traditional Authority Kapichi in Thyolo district where by Aubrey Yousuf comes from Chambuluka village, Traditional Authority Nkaya in Balaka district.
