Medical Aid Society of Malawi (Masm) has adjusted upwards, monthly contribution rates for its members, effective January 1 2025.

The changes have been necessitated by the current economic challenges, according to a circular from Masm chief executive officer Ulemu Katunga dated November 29 2024 to the Society’s members.

“The board at its recent sitting, mindful of the economic challenges and having assessed the performance in the intervening period and analysis of economic trends, and to ensure sustainability of the Society, approved that monthly contribution rates be revised on average by 14 percent for Econoplan Scheme, 12.5 percent for Executive Scheme and 12 percent for the VIP Scheme effective January 1st 2025,” part of the circular reads.

The circular states that the board is, however, mindful of the pressure the adjustments will bring to its members and resultant expectations of service providers.

As such, the circular further states that the board will continue watching and reviewing operations of the Society to ensure continued sustainability while assuring members of access to medical care they are accustomed to.
