A 21-year-old Brazilian drug smuggler was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Tuesday afternoon.

The suspect had just arrived from São Paulo, Brazil, when SAPS Crime Intelligence intercepted him. A medical x-ray revealed he had ingested plastic-wrapped cocaine ‘bullets.

OR Tambo International Airport, located in Kempton Park, Gauteng Province, is one of Africa’s busiest airports and serves as a major international gateway to South Africa.

The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are working to establish the total quantity of drugs he was attempting to smuggle and whether he is connected to a larger trafficking network.
