Blantyre Police was yesterday on 3rd December 2024 arrested Times Group journalist Isaac Salima while he was on duty capturing images at the Department of Road Traffic and Safety Services (DRTSS) headquarters in Ginnery Corner, in the city.
It is reported that, Salima was at the scene covering a commotion when police arrived to restore order. During the intervention, officers reportedly apprehended Salima and took him to their offices near Wenela Bus Depot.
While in custody, police allegedly forced Salima to delete photos and videos he had taken, without providing a valid reason. He was released after approximately 30 minutes upon complying with their demands.
Meanwhile, the umbrella body that defend and promote freedom of expression as well access to information among journalist, MISA Malawi has not yet commented on the matter.
