A concerned citizen from the Lower Shire Nthanda Khumbanyiwa, is staging a protest at Roads Authority offices in Lilongwe, expressing concerns over the state of roads damaged during Cyclone Freddy in the districts of Chikwawa and Nsanje.
According to Khumbanyiwa, despite promises from the authority, the roads remain unrepaired leaving the community anxious as the rainy season approaches.
In an interview, Nkhumbaniwa highlighted how the deteriorating road conditions have exacerbated existing challenges. She criticized the Roads Authority for failing to take decisive action on a critical issue.
She said : “They have been making repeated promises to fix these roads, yet nothing has been done. The destruction has severely impacted the flow of goods and services, as well as the daily lives of businesses, travelers, and residents who depend on these routes.”
She emphasised the urgent need for immediate intervention to prevent further disruption.
“I want to know what specific solutions and strategies the Roads Authority has implemented or plans to implement to address these pressing issues. With the rainy season fast approaching, the risk of additional damage is increasing, and swift action is essential,” she added.
The UTM Party president Dalitso Kabambe and the party’s national director of youth Penjani Kalua have joined Khumbanyiwa in solidarity.
