State Vice President Dr. Michael Usi has said that he is still member of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) despite endorsing President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) ahead of the 2025 polls.

Usi defence follow the statement he made recently at Thambani in Mwanza where he said ‘Boma ndilomweli’, a slogan being championed by the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

After uttering the said statement, many claimed that Usi is relocating to Malawi Congress Party.

But Usi has quashed this, saying he is still member of UTM.

“I am UTM, that’s a fact. When you have a child in marriage, when one of the spouses withdraws from the marriage, the child remains the product of the two. You cannot say that because you have withdrawn then the child does not belong to you.

“I say boma ndilomweli b e c a u s e I know I participated in the creation of this government [Tonse Alliance]. After all, I have not seen any letter from anybody [from UTM] that says they have withdrawn from the Tonse Alliance,” Usi was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, UTM spokesperson Felix Njawala has hinted that Usi will face disciplinary action over the remarks.
