Leader of Opposition George Chaponda has called on the Ministry of Homeland Security to provide evidence supporting claims that the government is constructing police houses at the Luchenza Police Headquarters in Thyolo District.

Speaking in Parliament, Chaponda emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, demanding verifiable proof of the project.

In response, Richard Chimwendo Banda, Leader of the House, affirmed that the government is indeed building the houses, inviting opposition members to visit Luchenza for confirmation.

“Visit Luchenza, and you will see for yourselves. Fifty houses are already under construction. Go there and see them,” said Chimwendo Banda.

The remarks have heightened debate over the government’s efforts to address housing shortages for police officers across Malawi.
