Police in Mzuzu have arrested Mphaniso Phiri, a 20-year-old man, on suspicion of murdering Abel Chiumia, a motorcycle taxi operator in the city.
Chiumia was reportedly hired on Monday by passengers seeking transport to Sonda, but he was later killed, and his motorcycle stolen.
Mzuzu Police Deputy Spokesperson Cecilia Mfune confirmed the arrest of Phiri, who is believed to be connected to the murder. Authorities are actively pursuing other suspects involved in the incident.
Police have also recovered the stolen motorcycle.
Phiri hails from Zanyonsoloma Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kampingo Sibande, Mzimba. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
