A man in Mzuzu ordered him to be in prison for 17 years for sleeping with a 16-year-old girl who became pregnant.

Principal resident Magistrate Clemence Chamwenda of the Mzuzu court has handed down the punishment to Francis Mhone of Chibeti village to chief Kabunduli in Nkhatabay.

According to the deputy spokesperson of the police in Mzuzu, Sergeant Cecilia Mfune, the police arrested the man on the suspicion that he had sex with a teenager between the months of September and November this year in the Msongwe area of ​​the town.

The story came to light on the 19th of last month when the child was sleeping outside and the parents searched and found him at the man’s house and then informed the police.

Although Mr. Mhone pleaded guilty to the charge, Principal Resident Magistrate Clemence Chamwenda said that he has sentenced him to 17 years in prison in order to warn other people of such thoughts.
