15-Year-Old Girl Attacked by Crocodile While Swimming in Shire River

Authorities in Chikwawa district have launched a search and rescue operation in the Shire River for 15-year-old Maria Richard, who was attacked by a crocodile.

The district’s Police Spokesperson, Dickson Matemba, confirmed the incident, stating that Maria, a pupil at Dzimbiri Primary School, had gone swimming in the river with her friends after school.

“While swimming, a crocodile emerged from the river and dragged her away. People nearby tried to rescue her, but their efforts were unsuccessful,” Matemba said.
