Former President Peter Mutharika who is also leader of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has denied being in bad blood with former first lady Gertrude Mutharika.
Over the weekend the social media was awash with report the former President has filed for divorce over disagreement an estate worthy MK9.8 billion which the former first lady want to be part of.
The rumour was fueled by the absence of former first lady during whistle stop tours that Mutharika and some DPP top officials conducted in the eastern region.
But Mutharika through his spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba has quashed the claims, saying all is well between the two.
“His Excellency Prof Arthur Peter Mutharika, the Former President of the Republic of Malawi and President of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), is deeply troubled by a false article circulating on Opera News blog and social media. The article claims that there are “irreconcilable differences between him and Her Excellency Gertrude Mutharika. These claims are completely unfounded and are clearly an attempt to divert attention away from the DPP’s upcoming victory in the 2025 elections.
“His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is aware that there are individuals with malicious intentions who are trying to tarnish his reputation and distract him from leading the country to a brighter future. He, however, remains steadfast in his commitment to winning back the government in. September 2025 and bringing hope to the people of Malawi,” reads part of the statement.
Mutharika has since vowed to win the 2025 polls.
