Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) has quashed rumours hovering on social media claiming that governor Dr. Wilson Banda is set to resign from the Central Bank.

Social media was awash with report that Banda has tendered his resignation over failure by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to adhere to some of his advises.

According to the rumour, the whole process will be finalized once Chakwera is back from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

But RBM has described the statement as fake.

“We are aware of a post circulating on social media suggesting that Dr. Wilson T. Banda, Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi is set to resign. Dr. Banda has no intentions of resigning and any such claims remain speculative and unsubstantiated,” reads part of the statement.
