In a testament to courage and unwavering dedication, Malawian human rights lawyer Alexious Kamangila has been honored as the Human Rights Defender of the Year.
The prestigious award, accompanied by a trophy and a one-million-kwacha cash prize, was presented at a dinner in Lilongwe this evening to mark International Human Rights Defenders Day. Kamangila emerged as the standout among nine nominees for his exceptional contributions to justice and equality.
Currently pursuing his studies in Ireland, Kamangila could not attend the ceremony in person. The award was received on his behalf by Sellina Kainja, Vice President of the Political Science Association (PSA).
The event brought together human rights advocates to recognize the selfless efforts of those who risk their lives to defend human rights, emphasizing the critical role they play in shaping a just society.
