The court of the Chief Resident Magistrate in Lilongwe has adjourned until January 8 next year the case in which the leader of the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) Enoch Chihana, Newton Kambala and the former assistant of the president of the country Chris Chaima Banda, are responding.

Representing Kambala in the case, Mthuka George Mwale said that the case was adjourned because Chihana’s lawyers could not come to the court due to other problems.

He said that the government side is expected to bring two witnesses to the case today.

The three were arrested in August 2021 for suspected acts of inciting public servants to commit corruption.

They are believed to want to interfere in the awarding of contracts for the purchase of motor oil to the government agency National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA).
