National Registration Bureau (NRB) has dismissed as baseless allegations of malpractice at Kanengo storage facility in Lilongwe, after some opposition legislators stormed the place.

Principal Secretary in the Homeland Security Ministry responsible for NRB, Mphatso Sambo, addressed political leaders to clarify on the insinuations that NRB is printing extra national registration cards.

He pointed out that there is nothing sinister as the site is their holding area for national IDs that have been processed for Malawians that applied for the document, ready to be dispatched for collection, just like they do with all other regions.

Sambo has also refuted allegations that Malawi Electoral Commission gadgets were seen at the warehouse, belonging to National Food Reserve Agency.

Present during the meeting, organised after some opposition members of Parliament led by Sameer Suleiman raided NRB offices at Kanengo, were Democratic Progressive Party Secretary General, Peter Mukhito, AFORD President, Enock Chihana and Civil Society leaders, including Robert Mkwezalamba.
