Opposition lawmakers led by Blantyre City South East Constituency Member Sameer Suleman have busted a suspicious National Registration Bureau (NRB) office at National food Reserve Agency (NFRA) in Lilongwe.

Sulemani was franked by Leader of opposition Dr. George Chaponda, Mary Navicha, Ben Phiri and others.

The lawmakers acting on a tip from well-wishers found National IDs all over the warehouse and some gadgets for NRB officials.

One of the officials from NRB told the lawmakers that the warehouse act as a place where sorting and parking of the IDs is done before being sent to the registration centres and other areas.

But MPs objected to the explanation.

United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi has since condemned the act.

“It has come to light that the National Registration Bureau (NRB) may be housing a secret warehouse in Lilongwe to print extra ID cards, allegedly with the intent of influencing the outcome of next year’s Presidential elections in favor of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

“If these allegations are true, they represent a direct assault on our democracy and the sacrifices Malawians made to achieve a multiparty system of governance. Our hard-won right to freely and fairly choose our leaders must not be undermined by such manipulative tactics,” wrote Muluzi.

He added: “We call on all stakeholders—civil society, political leaders, and international partners—to demand transparency and accountability. The integrity of our democratic processes is non-negotiable.

“Malawians, let us stand together in rejecting any attempts to subvert our democracy. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and the future of our nation.”
