A 22-year-old man from Masaiti, Copperbelt Province in Zambia, has tragically died, while his older brother remains hospitalized after the two were trapped in a 30-meter deep water well they were digging in Masaiti District.

Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner, Peacewell Mweemba, has confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Charles Sipunga, aged 22, and his older brother Evans, aged 37.

According to Mweemba, Charles suffocated while attempting to rescue Evans, who had become trapped earlier in the well.

The two brothers were working together to re-dig a well that had gone dry at a nearby farm. Charles, a local specialist in well digging, enlisted his brother Evans for assistance.

However, while digging, Evans became trapped in the well. As Charles attempted to help him, he too became trapped and suffocated in the process.

The two were eventually rescued by members of the local community, but Charles was pronounced dead at Silangwa
