The Ministry of Education has ordered temporary closure of schools in Shire Highlands Education Division (SHED) South West Education Division (SWED) South East Education Division (SEED) and also schools in Dedza and Ntcheu education districts today on, Monday 16 December 2024.
The Ministry has made the directive in a memo signed by Secretary for Education, Dr. Rachel Phiri that Face of Malawi has seen.
It says students in boarding schools, “are advised to remain in their schools. School Management for the boarding schools are advised to exercise necessary caution to keep students safe during this time.”
According to the Ministry classes will resume on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, as Cyclone Chido will diminish by Monday afternoon as per Meteorological Department forecast.
According to MET the Cyclone will trigger heavy rains in Machinga, Mangochi, Balaka, Zomba, Mwanza, Neno, Mulanje, Phalombe, Thyolo, Nsanje, Chikwawa just to mention but a few districts.
