A total of 1,800 households have been affected by the effects of Tropical Cyclone Chido in various parts of the country.

A preliminary impact report from the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) has shown that as of 11:30 AM on Monday morning, two deaths had been recorded, with other reports indicating serious damages to houses and property.

According to DoDMA, most of the damage has been recorded in Machinga where one death has been recorded and 650 households have been affected, followed by Phalombe with 305 affected households.

The other death has been recorded in Blantyre.

Although Chido has left significant damage in its tracks, the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has announced that the cyclone is weakening.
