A large crowd has gathered at the Blantyre Magistrate Court carrying placards with messages such as “No Bail for Linda Chitala,” who is expected to appear in court today over allegations of child abuse involving her 4-year-old stepdaughter.
Linda, currently on remand at Chichiri Prison, was arrested last week after concerned citizens reported her to the police for allegedly abusing the child.
Images of the abused child, which circulated widely on social media, sparked outrage and prompted individuals to donate money for the child’s medical care and nutritional support.
Meanwhile, the father of the child has also faced criticism and was arrested over his alleged neglect and lack of concern for the child’s well-being.
The case has drawn widespread attention, with many Malawians calling for justice for the victim and some stakeholders have condemned police for arresting the father can also be a victim to his wife Linda.
