The Nyahbinghi National Council of Malawi has condemned the police killing of Jeremiah Maluwa, a 45-year-old Rastafarian, in Salima District on December 7, 2024.
Maluwa whom the police at Chipoka suspected of being in possession of an illicit drug called marijuana was in transit from home to Golomoti in Dedza district.
Meanwhile, Ras Free I Mdutu Chairperson for the Council has demanded a thorough investigation and justice for Maluwa, alleging a broader pattern of police brutality and discrimination against Rastafarians.
Our efforts to hear from Peter Kalaya National Police spokesperson on the demands proved futile as our calls went unanswered.
