The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has issued a stern warning to authorities demanding extra fees for subsidized fertilizer.
The warning comes following reported incidents in various selling points in Lilongwe where farmers are being forced to pay an additional 30,000 kwacha to purchase the subsidized fertilizer.
ACB spokesperson, Egrita Ndala confirmed that the institution has received reports of this malpractice and is taking swift action to address the issue.
Ndala warns that those found guilty will face the full force of the law.
“Those involved in this corrupt practice will be held accountable and face the consequences,” Ndala warned.
The decision comes amidst concerns raised by small-scale farmers in Phalombe failed to purchase the bag for not having an extra demanded maoney.
Meanwhile, ACB has advised farmers not to pay the extra fee and to report any instances of corruption to the authorities.
