The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) has confirmed that the death toll from Cyclone Chido has increased from two to seven.
Chipiliro Khamula, spokesperson for DODMA, shared the updated information with local media, revealing that new preliminary reports from councils show a rise in the number of fatalities.
According to Khamula, Salima has recorded three deaths, while Lilongwe, Kasungu, Blantyre, and Machinga have each reported one death.
In total, 34,741 people have been affected by the cyclone thus far.
