Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda has strongly condemned the remarks made by Member of Parliament for Mulanje Bale Victor Musowa declaring total war on MCP supporters.
Over the weekend the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) held a rally in Ndirande where Musowa was captured urging party supporters to chase and attack anyone shouting MCP slogan in the area.
“Nyengo ino munthu kunena kuti kwacha ndi zoona? Igwira? Nde tipemphe kuti aja mumathamangitsa aja muone mochitira mwake. Mukadzamva za kwacha chitani momo. Mudzaone mochitira mwake. Osawasiya adzazolowera Ndirande sisunga kape,” Musowa was quoted as saying.
But speaking at media briefing at MCP headquarters Chimwendo Banda strongly condemned the remarks, saying violence has no place in democracy.
Banda said that DPP is resorting into violent acts because the party is aware that Malawians are pro-MCP ahead of the 2025 polls.
He then urged religious leaders and Civil Society Organizations in the country to condemn the political violence ahead of the polls.
