President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has received the report of the Commission of inquiry into the aircraft accident involving a Malawi air force Dornier 228 MAF – TO3 that claimed the lives of former vice president Dr Saulos Chilima and 8 others at Nthungwa in Nkhatabay District.
The President allowed the Commission to present the report to the public first.
In the report that was presented to the media and the nation for over four hours, the commission pointed out that poor climatic conditions, among others, had a major influence on the accident.
Chairperson of the Commission, Justice Jabbar Alide, said despite the fact that all checks established that the aircraft was in good condition, the crew needed to take heed of the weather condition and follow aviation protocols.
Present at the presentation of the report to the President are the members of the Commission.
The Commission was established on 24th October 2024 to look into circumstances leading to the crash of the aircraft.
