The umbrella body that defends and promotes media freedom,MISA Malawi, has expressed deep sorrow over the untimely death of journalist Hellen Kayira.

In a statement signed by Chairperson Golden Matoga, it was revealed that Hellen passed away yesterday on 18 December , 2024, at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.

Hellen Kayira worked for Radio ABC and Chanco Community Radio before venturing into individual business pursuits. She is remembered by the media fraternity as a humble and hardworking professional who cherished meaningful interactions with colleagues and others.

A vigil is being held in Area 43, Lilongwe. On the morning of Thursday, December 19, 2024, her body will be collected from Mthunzi Funeral Home for burial in Karonga.

MISA Malawi has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Kayira family and the entire media fraternity.

“May Hellen’s soul rest in eternal peace,” the statement concludes.
