The High Court in Lilongwe has acquitted four police officers in the gruesome murder of Buleya Lule who died while in Police cell.
The four are former Commissioner of Police Evaristar Mvula, Steven Mashonga, Warren Joshua Mashonga, and Chifundo Chiwambo.
In a related development, the six police officer have been found guilty in the case.
Delivering his judgement, Judge Chifundo Kachale said the six are Paul Chipole, Ikram Malata, Richard Kalawire, Innocent Lwanda, Maxwell Mbuzi and Abel Maseya. He also said the court has revoked bail of the six individuals convicted in the case.
The court has since scheduled January 8th next year as the date for sentencing of those found guilty in the case.
Lule was a suspect in the abduction and murder of a 14-year-old boy with albinism from Dedza but died under mysterious circumstances in police custody in February 2019.
