High Court in Lilongwe started delivering its judgement in the high-profile murder case of Mr. Buleya Lule.
The courtroom is abuzz with anticipation as legal representatives, family members, and members of the public gather to hear the court’s decision.
Mr. Lule died in police custody in 2019 under mysterious circumstances after being accused of abducting a boy with albinism. The case has been closely watched due to its serious implications and the involvement of police officers.
The court in September 2022 found no case against Ronex Kapesa, Robert Tchaka, and Dereck Mitswati on the counts of murder.
The officers who were found with a case to answer by Justice Dr. Chifundo Kachale, and entered their defense with the assistance of their lawyers, are Paul Chipole, Ikram Malata, Richard Kalawire, Innocent Wanda, Steve Mashonga, Maxwell Mbidzi, Abel Maseya, Wallen Joshua Chavinda, and Chifundo Chiwambo.
Additionally, commissioner of police Evelista Goodwin Mvula and Chipole faced charges of negligence of duty to act, for failing to ensure that Lule was not subjected to harm while in police custody.
