The Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) has appointed Professor Francis Moto as the Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA).
In a press statement dated 24 December 2024, which has been signed by the Most Reverend George Desmond Tamala who is the President of the ECM, the newly appointed professor will commence his duties on the first of January 2025.
It also states that Moto is a distinguished academic and administrator with an impressive career spanning several decades.
The statement has further revealed that Professor Moto holds a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) and a master’s in Linguistics, which has helped his career to demonstrate exemplary leadership and dedication have served in various capacities.
“Some of his capabilities include being a principal and vice principal at Chancellor College now known as the University of Malawi, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Head and Acting Head of the Department of African Languages and Linguistics, Academic roles of Staff Associate, Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor in various reputable institutions of the country.
“Therefore, ECM is confident that Moto’s extensive experience and Visionary Leadership will be instrumental in steering CUNIMA during the critical period of growth and consideration;” explained the statement.
The statement also said his appointment underscores the commitment to deliver quality, holistic education that meets the nation’s needs and beyond.
“ECM has however called upon the entire CUNIMA community and all stakeholders to warmly welcome Professor Moto and extend their unwavering support as he takes on this noble task;” it explained.
