Unknown armed criminals yesterday attacked Agora Area Manager at Green Corner Puma Filling Station in Mpemba and went away with money mounting to MK23 million, two laptops and point of sale machine.

Police officials from Manase Police Station have confirmed of the robbery incident in a statement made available to this publication.

According to the statement, the Agora Area manager identified as Israel Mhlanga together with his assistant went to Chikwawa for official duties and met the whole ordeal while returning from lower shire.

“While at Mgabu Depot they collected the above mentioned Cash to be deposited in Blantyre. However on their way back at Mpemba ESCOM power plant their official vehicle Toyota Hilux, Reg No MHG 4257 was suddenly blocked by a Toyota Land cruiser van, Reg No BY 2198 which was heading the same direction and was occupied by unspecific number of criminals armed with a pistol and Panga Knives. The criminals smashed their wind screen, but they did not stop instead managed to escape from the place.

“The criminals kept on following them up to Green Corner Puma Filling Station where the reporter decided to park the vehicle for rescue and they run off from the vehicle while shouting for the help leaving the vehicle behind together with afore mentioned items inside,” reads part of the police report.

Meanwhile, the law enforcers have launched a manhunt for the suspected armed thieves.
